The moment that you've been waiting for so long has arrived - your baby is here! Now it's time to go home......which may be the scariest part of all.
You don't have to be alone. A postpartum doula, much like a birth doula, is a trained professional who offers educational, emotional, and physical support to the family in their home after the birth of their baby. Her role may vary from one visit to the next because the needs of your family will be changing from moment to moment. However, one thing is clear - a postpartum doula will work together with your entire family unit to build feelings of unity, give you the tools you need to ease the shifting family dynamic, and be a voice of patience and reassurance in a time of great uncertainty.
Some things you can expect from a Postpartum Doula:
- Making sure the mother is nurtured, hydrated, and has a safe space emotionally
- Assist in breastfeeding education
- Helps the father learn new skills to nurture the mom and baby
- Helps to teach the parents strategies to promote proper care and bonding with the baby
