As long as I can remember, I've been fascinated by birth. I knew from an early age that birth work was something I wanted to do with my life. I graduated with my Bachelor's of Nursing degree in 2003 from Samford University. After getting married, I excitedly planned the natural birth of my first baby in 2008. My doula's presence was hands down the only reason I was successful with carrying through with my plans for a natural birth. It was a difficult birth in so many ways and her reassuring words and calm spirit kept me in control and my husband reassured.

After my first natural birth, friends, and sometimes people I didn't even know, began calling and emailing wanting to know more about natural childbirth. In 2010, I knew it was time to pursue my passion and I took training with CAPPA to become a Certified Childbirth Educator (CCCE) and a Certified Labor Doula (CLD). Since then, I have attended dozens of births, both in the hospital and with midwives in Tennessee, with a variety of clients, including: first time moms, seasoned moms, vaginal births after cesareans, pre-term, and high risk. I have since had 2 more babies of my own, both in out of hospital settings. All three of my births are memories I will treasure forever. The moment I first saw their faces is etched in my mind in great detail. I believe every parent should treasure the memory of their baby's birth day. What makes each family's birth day special will look different to each couple and that is part of what I love about being a doula. I love being on this journey with parents as they grow to feel confident about making their own decisions and I love being the voice of affirmation to assure them they are capable of making wise and good decisions for their family, that they are strong and have everything they need to get through Birth Day. But mostly, I love being there on that day when it's finally time....time to finish the journey and meet that special someone for the first time. That is an honor of the most sacred kind I will never take for granted.
